CyberDemon   Baron of Hell   You   Cocodemon  Cyberdemon again

Doom is one of the greatest games of all time. The plot, as if we really care, sets you on Mars where you are fighting off an invasion from Hell. You roam around corridors and rooms searching for the exits and killing. Above are the greatest foes you fight till the end of Episode 3. In order of hard to hardest to kill they are: Cocodemon, Baron of Hell, and Cyberdemon. The hardest of all is the Spider Mastermind (you'll know it when you see it).   Bloody Guard aka Former Human Hello, there. Ready to die? Baron of Hell
That would be easy if wasn't for the fact that there are all these demons and zombies trying to eat you. You could run but wouldn't it feel much better to use a shotgun or a chainsaw to send them back to Hell? That's what Doom is all about. The producers haven't even attempted to put any subtlety in the game. You kill things and they die in horrible fashion. There's blood, gore and violence in practically unlimited amounts. I guess Nintendo's bloodless policy has been cast aside for this one.

The PC and SEGA32X versions are much alike, the SEGA32X is just alittle less detailed than a normal Multimedia PC (DX/33+). There is now a Gameboy Advance version of Doom so it can be played anywhere. It is much like the PC version but when killed creatures leave behind the ammo or other stuff they were carrying and disappear (made less bloody). Some objects and switches are also missing, but all the levels of Episodes 1 through 3 are there and all the rooms and stuff as before. Multiplayer DOOM can be played with the normal link cables.

There is The Ultimate DOOM CDROM from id/GT Software that has four games (Episodes 1 through 4) to be followed by doom2 and it's many levels (Only one big Episode) and the newest addtions FinalDOOM : TNT and Plutonia which also adds Doom95 to make it run under Win95+. The SEGA32X version falls down here, DOOM is one big Episode and misses Episode 4, though they may update it yet. I run it on the PC and have played and liked the SEGA32X version as well. The PC just as alot of advantages to me, modem play, network play, upgrades and other stuff from the net. I put in my ethernet network because of DOOM! I can currently run four player games inhouse. If you want to play modem talk me or drop me email at bcw@phobia.net, as far as I know I'm now setup for TCP/IP one of these days I'll test it. Should work under Windows95 (as does for Quake).

The SNES version will be more expensive than most games, although by the time all the stores have slashed their prices it should cost less than the normal retail price. It incorporates a fast new add on chip that helps to recreate those special graphics that made all the other versions so cool and sleek.

The 3D0 version is ?, well the 3DO seems to have come and gone. 3DOis now one of the software/web only companies. Doom is now out for most systems (including Linux) and is a good if overlooked game. Quake & QuakeII have taken over the market, Unreal is out there too. Like PacMan I still sometimes play Doom and more often doom2. They aren't true 3D, but they are fun and don't require a PentiumII to run (A 386 will run Doom). For more on the older ID Games (doom2...) check out GT's ID Games.
